Auto detailing lead generation for US detailers
Detail Up builds and runs the website, Google Ads, Meta Ads, SEO and Google Business Profile for one detailer per territory in the United States, tracks every call and form, and ties the fee to the enquiries that arrive. Campaigns are priced in USD and run from ad accounts in your name.
The US detailing market
The US car wash and auto detailing industry is worth about US$18.7 billion in 2026 (IBISWorld market-size page; its industry page says US$17.0 billion), growing at around 1.5% a year over the five years to 2026 and flat in the last twelve months. IBISWorld counts 16,879 businesses in 2026, up 1.8% on 2025. An older IBISWorld series that counted establishments rather than enterprises put the figure at 57,900 businesses and 197,800 employees in 2024, which is a better picture of how many storefronts, mobile vans and one-person operators a detailer is competing with.
The category is dominated by express car washes, and that is where the flat revenue sits. Detailing is the part that is not commoditised. Ceramic coatings, paint correction and paint protection film are priced in the high hundreds to several thousand dollars per job, and the customer buying them searches for a specialist, not the nearest tunnel wash. Search demand is large: "car detailing near me" draws about 450,000 US searches a month and "auto detailing near me" about 110,000, according to the 2026 SERPWARS keyword list.
For a detailer that means the fight is for the first page of Google in a defined service area, not for the whole city. Detail Up sells one territory to one detailer, builds the website and Google Ads around the services that pay, and tracks every enquiry back to its source. When detailing demand moves in the United States
US detailing demand follows spring and summer. Trade publication Professional Carwashing & Detailing puts it plainly: business booms in spring and summer, but as soon as fall and winter begin, things can grind to a halt. Search interest agrees: five years of Google Trends data show May is the peak month for "car detailing" and November the lowest. The reason is road salt. Twenty-eight states and the District of Columbia sit in the Salt Belt, and every spring the carpets, wheel wells and undercarriages of tens of millions of cars need the salt taken off.
The Sunbelt runs on a different clock. Georgia detailers describe a spring pollen season that bonds to paint after rain and needs a wash every one to two weeks, and Houston detailers work through summers of 100°F and above. Hail is the third driver: State Farm paid more than US$5.6 billion in hail claims in 2025, US$1.4 billion of it in Texas, and Colorado's Front Range season concentrates in a six-week window from roughly May 15 to June 25. Detail Up plans Google Ads budgets around those curves rather than spending flat all year, with the biggest lift in March to May in the north and a second pre-winter push for coatings and film in September to November.
Marketplaces vs your own detailing leads in the United States
The platforms US detailers use to buy enquiries, and how each charges. Every one sells the same enquiry to several businesses or keeps the customer relationship; Detail Up generates enquiries from assets in your name, for you only.
| Platform | How it charges | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Thumbtack | Pay per lead, charged when a customer messages, calls or books; you set a max price per lead and a weekly budget | US$10–$100+ per lead across categories; detailers report US$30–$50+ per lead in competitive metros |
| Angi (Angi Leads, formerly HomeAdvisor) | Pay per lead plus about US$300 a year membership; 12-month contracts and US$400+ monthly minimums reported | US$15–$85 per lead, shared with 3 to 8 other businesses |
| Yelp Ads | Pay per click; minimum about US$150 a month (US$5 a day); Yelp publishes no average CPC | Upgrade package US$180 a month; bundles from US$270 a month |
| Bark | Credit packs, one-off fee per lead response; credits expire after 3 months; no commission | US credit price not published; cost shown before you respond |
| Google Local Services Ads | Pay per lead with the Google Guaranteed or Google Screened badge | "Car Wash and Detailing" is an eligible category; per-lead price for detailing not published |
| Nextdoor Ads | Cost per thousand impressions | About US$20 CPM via Taradel, 2025; business page is free |
What detailing advertising costs in the United States
The closest published US benchmark for detailing is the automotive repair, service and parts category in the WordStream and LocaliQ 2026 search advertising benchmarks: US$4.35 per click and US$29.96 per lead, with a 15.5% conversion rate. That is a US average across auto services, not a detailing figure. At keyword level the 2026 SERPWARS list puts "car detailing near me" at US$2.28 per click and "mobile detailing" at US$2.56, while an agency that runs detailing accounts reports US$5 to US$15 per click for "car detailing near me" and "mobile detailing [city]" once you bid on the exact-match high-intent terms in a competitive metro.
Our own numbers come from Australian accounts, so treat them as a reference for what a single-service, single-territory build produces rather than a US benchmark. Across the Google Ads accounts Detail Up manages the average cost per tracked enquiry is AUD $14.70, and the Meta Ads detailing campaigns have delivered 441 leads at AUD $11.86 each. The account-level detail is on the results page.
Advertising claims and the law in the United States
US advertising law is strict on the word "guarantee". The FTC's Guides for the Advertising of Warranties and Guarantees (16 CFR Part 239) say "satisfaction guaranteed" or "money back guarantee" should only be used if the seller refunds the full purchase price at the buyer's request, and any material conditions must be disclosed in the ad itself. The Endorsement Guides, revised in 2023 require testimonials to reflect what a customer can typically expect, and the Consumer Reviews and Testimonials Rule in force since October 2024 bans fake or bought reviews with civil penalties of up to US$51,744 per violation. That is why Detail Up does not promise a fixed number of leads. The offer is performance-based: an exclusive territory, every enquiry tracked, and fees tied to the enquiries that arrive. We recommend detailers word their own coating and correction claims the same way, stated only as far as the manufacturer warranty or your own records support.
